Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Infrastructure

About the role

Hercules is looking for a Senior / Staff Software Engineer – Infrastructure to work directly with the founding team and help scale an AI-driven application platform.

Tasks

• Take end-to-end ownership of critical infrastructure, improve platform reliability, and solve problems involving AI agents, durable workflows, databases, and multi-tenant application hosting.

Requirements

• Typically 2–10 Years
• End-to-end ownership of a complete product module, from design through production delivery
• Hands-on experience with Temporal, Cadence, AWS Step Functions, or a comparable durable workflow orchestrator
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK
• Production experience orchestrating servers or containers using technologies such as Kubernetes or Docker on AWS
• Strong production database expertise, including schema design, scaling, and performance tuning
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and/or ClickHouse
• Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or background agents
• At least 1 year at a fast-growing startup with fewer than approximately 150 employees, or at a high-bar developer tools/product company
• Strong autonomy, urgency, and end-to-end engineering ownership
• Practical experience using AI coding tools while maintaining high code quality
• Experience with AI agent infrastructure, Kubernetes, AWS, TypeScript, React, or Postgres is a plus
• Candidates should be willing to work onsite or relocate; remote arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates.
