About the role

The Senior Estimator operates with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams and frequently serves as the principal point of contact with the design team and the owner. The role includes leading project delivery methods and estimating work for transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects.

Responsibilities

• Use HCSS estimate entry and quote system tools.
• Estimate scopes related to the estimator’s discipline area of expertise.
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs on bid items and materials to develop all-inclusive cost estimates.
• Estimate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection.
• Participate in detailed reviews and explain the estimate.
• Use relevant cost history databases to verify production rates.
• Prepare supplier bid packages for competitive material quotes on self-performed work.
• Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation processes.
• Assist in obtaining firm quotes from material suppliers, equipment providers, and subcontractors.
• Apply expertise in areas such as mass earthwork and grading, aggregates, PCCP paving, asphalt paving, and underground utilities.
• Review geotechnical reports for dewatering, blasting, and ripping requirements; assess earthwork flow, mass haul diagrams, project phasing, and equipment production.
• Identify quarries and pits suitable for project use; understand aggregate, asphalt, and concrete production, as well as incentives, penalties, and PWLs.
• Understand trench protection and shoring for underground utilities.

Requirements

• Advanced HCSS knowledge of estimate entry and quote system tools.
• Demonstrated competence in basic and advanced estimating functions and competence in a discipline area of expertise.
• Experience with desired estimating disciplines including earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structures on transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects.
