The team covers a wide range of topics including politics, environment, public policy, housing, economy, culture, food, events, tourism, and everyday life on the island.
Through partnerships with local and international organizations, Roam Puerto Rico creates strategic campaigns, sponsored content, event coverage, and digital activations that maintain cultural context and editorial integrity while connecting people meaningfully to Puerto Rico.
Role Description: The Freelance Writer will create timely, accurate, and engaging stories about Puerto Rico’s politics, culture, economy, environment, and everyday life, aligned with Roam Puerto Rico’s editorial standards.
Typical responsibilities include pitching story ideas, conducting research and interviews, writing and revising articles in Spanish and/or English, and collaborating with editors and the creative team to adapt content for web, social media, and newsletters. The writer will help develop narrative angles for branded content and sponsored campaigns, ensuring they remain authentic and contextually grounded.
What we're looking for:Strong writing in Spanish (bilingual EN/ES is a plus)Comfortable reaching out to and interviewing sourcesGenuine knowledge of and interest in Puerto RicoSelf-directed: you can own a story from pitch to publish with minimal hand-holdingBasic SEO skills (we'll teach the rest)
Nice to have: Journalism backgroundCMS/WordPress experience
This is a contract role, paid per piece or per project, with room to grow into a bigger part of the team as our editorial output scales.
