HVAC Field Service Technician

The Service Technician will diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. This role will provide necessary training and guidance to Level I technicians. Additional responsibilities will increase based on exposure to tasks, existing and ability to further develop troubleshooting skill set, and consistent and accurate completion of assignments. The HVAC equipment includes, but is not limited to, the following: large and small rooftop units, split systems, chillers, VRV, and some centrifugal chiller units.
Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance of HVAC VRV, unitary and applied equipment including logging machines, cleaning coils, brushing tubes, replacing filters, replacing belts and proper lubrication.Perform troubleshooting, intermediate independent & supported diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of CAT II and III equipment.Repair and replacement of defective equipment, components, or wiring including, but not limited to CAT II and III equipment: VFDs, VRV, electrical and refrigerant circuits, screw, scroll, and reciprocal compressors, rooftop systems up to 150 tons, and scroll chillers up to 200 tons.Beginner-Intermediate level proficiency in independent troubleshooting of CAT II and III equipment. Introduction to centrifugal chillers and CAT I equipment.Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality related to scroll chillers, rooftop units up to 150 tons, and all Category II and III equipment.Perform start up by verifying functionality of new CAT II & III equipment. Educate customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual.Responsible for providing parts and labor-hours needed for repairs of CAT II & III Equipment after a confirmed diagnosis, so that the SSR could quote the job.Lead the rebuild of a CAT II and III level unit. Direct Level I technicians through hands-on demonstrations of all necessary steps. Introduced to centrifugal rebuilds from Lead and Level III technicians.Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, verbal, and written communication. Interact with customer by offering status reports of service before, during, and after each call. Explain technical information to technical and non-technical audience.Communicate potential sales opportunities to the sales staff through the technician tip quote process. Identify and quote opportunities for minor repairs directly to the customerResponsible for mentoring Level I service technicians on scroll chillers, micro-techs controllers, and CAT II & III equipment.Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician service reports, and other articles as required in a timely manner.Basic data entry and ability to navigate the use of email, internet, word processing programs.Download programs into CAT II and III equipment and Micro controllers.Analyze equipment trend data to ensure optimal performance.Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are upheld at all times.Ability to follow schedules and budgetsWear company uniform and required safety PPE, perform job hazard analysisParticipate in on-call rotation as required in the region.Follow all OSHA and Daikin Applied safety policies and procedures.Potential travel requirements with some overnight travel.Other duties as assigned
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
Must have:Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.2 years of experience or more in HVAC Service or related industry.Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Skills:Technical and Communication Skills:Active listening and ability to follow instructions.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Teamwork and good manual dexterity.Attention to detail and ability to concentrate for long periods.Time management skills and basic computer knowledge.Ability to take notes and complete online technical courses.Technical Knowledge:Understanding of refrigeration cycle, p-h diagram (Mollier), and psychometric diagram.Use of service tools, basic refrigerant handling, and flaring processes.Leak inspection, brazing, and electrical knowledge (electrical and control diagrams).Proper use of measuring tools and safety protocols.Equipment design and installation knowledge, including heat load calculations and equipment selection.Basic diagnostic skills, including electrical errors and error codes.Refrigeration and HVAC Knowledge:Basic startup and commissioning knowledge for chillers, AHUs, and packaged rooftop units.Basic VRV/DX and HVAC building systems (chilled water plants).Preventive and corrective maintenance knowledge, including heat balance calculations and refrigerant volume checks.Knowledge of inverter controls, refrigerants, and environmental considerations.
