JOB SUMMARYThe Junior Accountant supports the finance team by performing daily accounting tasks, with a primary focus on processing bank transactions, preparing journal entries, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who is detail‑oriented, organized, and eager to grow within the accounting function.
Key Responsibilities:
Bank & Cash ManagementRecord daily bank transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and electronic payments.Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.Monitor cash balances and flag unusual or unexpected activity.Maintain organized documentation for all banking activityGeneral AccountingPrepare and post journal entries for recurring and ad‑hoc transactions.Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing activities.Support the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Reconcile balance sheet accounts such as prepaid expenses, accruals, and intercompany accounts.Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing as neededReporting & AnalysisSupport the preparation of internal financial reports.Provide data and documentation for audits and internal reviews.Help identify process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.Compliance & DocumentationMaintain proper filing and documentation of accounting records.Ensure compliance with company policies and basic accounting standards.Assist with implementing internal controls related to cash and financial reporting.QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or in progress).1–2 years of accounting experience; co‑op or internship experience is an asset.Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite).Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Good communication and problem‑solving skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel including VLOOKUPs and Pivot tables.Personal AttributesEager to learn and grow within the accounting profession.Reliable, organized, and able to work independently with guidance.Comfortable working with numbers and financial data.Team‑oriented with a positive, proactive attitude.
