Project Coordinator

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) leads global efforts to reduce disaster risk and strengthen resilience in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. Within this mandate, UNDRR works closely with governments, UN entities, regional organizations, and development partners to advance disaster preparedness, risk-informed decision-making, and climate resilience.The Project Coordinator will support the implementation of two major regional initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean: the UNDRR-ECHO Disaster Preparedness Programme and the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative. The role will provide leadership, coordination, and quality assurance for project implementation across the region, ensuring alignment with UNDRR priorities, donor requirements, the Sendai Framework, and EU-LAC cooperation objectives.
The Project Coordinator will lead the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of regional disaster risk reduction and preparedness initiatives across Latin America and the Caribbean. The role requires strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical coordination skills to ensure effective delivery of project results and partnerships.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership and CoordinationLead project planning, implementation, monitoring, and financial oversight.Ensure alignment of activities with project objectives, indicators, and workplans.Coordinate regional and subregional workstreams and technical inputs.Support the development of risk assessments, country risk profiles, and knowledge products.Strategic Partnerships and EngagementServe as the primary focal point for key partners, including DG-ECHO, UN agencies, regional organizations, and implementing partners.Coordinate EU-LAC Memorandum of Understanding activities and high-level dialogues.Support engagement with regional platforms, forums, and global disaster risk reduction processes.Technical OversightProvide quality assurance for disaster risk assessments, preparedness initiatives, and early warning system activities.Support UN Country Teams, Resident Coordinators, and humanitarian partners on disaster preparedness and anticipatory action.Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives, communications products, and technical guidance.Monitoring, Reporting and CommunicationsTrack project progress and results against agreed targets.Prepare donor reports, strategic briefs, and project updates.Lead internal coordination meetings and planning processes.Ensure visibility of project achievements through websites, publications, and social media channels.
RequirementsEducationBachelor's degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change, Development Studies, Humanitarian Action, International Relations, or a related field.ExperienceMinimum 7 years of professional experience in project or programme management.At least 5 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian action, preparedness, resilience, or climate-related programmes.Proven experience managing regional or multi-country initiatives.Strong experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, partners, and donor-funded projects.LanguageFluent English and Spanish (required).
