Our JFM Logistics is looking for suitably qualified candidates for the Workshop Technician / Diesel Mechanic – Logistics Fleet position with experience operating in the logistics environment and related workshop maintenance.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, inspection, and repair of JFM Logistics’ fleet of trucks, trailers, and related equipment. The role requires a proactive individual who can diagnose faults efficiently, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure that all fleet assets remain roadworthy and compliant.
Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic or relevant trade qualification (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years’ working experience working on heavy commercial vehicles.
• Previous experience within the transport and logistics industry.
• Valid South African driver’s license (Code EC/Code B/Code A/Code C/Code D) (as applicable).
• Knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance.
• Good understanding of preventative maintenance programmes.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
• Willingness to work overtime and attend breakdowns when required.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform maintenance servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
• Conduct inspections to ensure fleet roadworthiness and compliance.
• Complete repairs efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Carry out pre-trip and post-repair inspections.
Workshop Operations
• Maintain accurate workshop job cards and maintenance records.
• Report defects and repair requirements.
• Ensure workshop equipment is maintained and used correctly.
• Keep the workshop clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.
• Manage tools and workshop equipment responsibly.
Breakdown Assistance
• Attend roadside breakdowns where required.
• Troubleshoot and resolve vehicle faults.
• Coordinate with transport operations to minimise disruptions.
Compliance & Safety
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with road traffic regulations and workshop standards.
• Identify and report potential safety hazards.
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship at all times.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.
• Extensive mechanical aptitude.
• Knowledge of truck engines, gearboxes, brakes, suspensions, and trailer systems.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliable, responsible, and results-focused.
• Good time-management skills.
Advantageous Experience
• Experience working on Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, UD, Isuzu, or FAW trucks.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• Automotive electrical experience.
• Experience using fleet management.
