About the role

Gitsegukla First Nation is seeking a Certified Carpenter for its Housing Department. Reporting to the Construction Foreman, this full-time, permanent role involves skilled carpentry work on Band-owned homes and community buildings. The carpenter supports project planning and execution, guides Construction Labourers, and helps ensure projects meet building codes, safety standards, and quality expectations.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry work including framing, roofing, flooring, finishing, cabinetry, drywall installation, and structural repairs.
• Interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
• Build, install, and repair structures using appropriate materials and tools.
• Inspect work to identify defects, structural issues, or required repairs.
• Complete renovation and maintenance tasks on Band-owned housing and buildings.
• Ensure work meets BC Building Code and best-practice construction standards.
• Follow WorkSafeBC regulations and Gitsegukla safety procedures, use proper PPE, and operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely.
• Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and safety orientations.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment failures.
• Support safe working conditions for labourers and assist with site safety coordination.
