Job description

About the role

At Tocaro Blue, the Senior Machine Learning Engineer will help advance the ProteusCore radar tracking and ApolloCore radar/camera fusion perception stack for maritime autonomy. The role focuses on designing, training, and deploying custom machine learning models for object detection, semantic segmentation, and tracking in dynamic maritime environments.

The work supports defense customers developing USVs/ASVs for the U.S. Navy and commercial OEMs bringing marine ADAS and autopilot features to market.

Responsibilities

  • Invent and refine deep learning architectures for Radar and EO/IR imagery, with an emphasis on semantic segmentation and temporal tracking.
  • Develop multi-stage machine learning pipelines tailored to low-SNR Radar returns.
  • Organize dataset design, data collection in real and simulated environments, and synthetic augmentation of Radar and camera datasets.
  • Train models on proprietary large-scale datasets using design-of-experiment methods for data collection and annotation.
  • Optimize and deploy models to resource-constrained edge hardware, including CPU-only and ARM64 platforms, with C++ inference layers.
  • Advance fusion-aware models integrating Radar with EO/IR, AIS, and cartography for classification in GPS-denied or cluttered environments.

Requirements

  • The source describes the role as suited to an experienced machine learning researcher.
