Senior Salesforce Developer
Position Purpose
The Senior Salesforce Developer is a technical leader responsible for the architecture, development, and delivery of Salesforce-based solutions that support operational, commercial, and donor engagement workflows. This role applies deep Salesforce platform expertise to build robust, scalable customizations and integrations that connect Salesforce to the broader digital ecosystem.
The Senior Salesforce Developer collaborates closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, integration engineers, and managed service providers to deliver Salesforce capabilities that streamline processes, improve data quality, and enhance operational visibility across the organization.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The Senior Salesforce Developer stays close enough to the code and the platform to be credible with the developers they mentor, and contributes personally to the hardest technical decisions. The role also operates within the cross-domain engineering standards being established across the technology portfolio, rather than as a standalone Salesforce silo.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Salesforce Architecture & Development
Design and develop robust Salesforce solutions including Apex classes and triggers, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, Process Builder configurations, and custom metadata types.Lead technical design for new Salesforce capabilities; define architecture decisions aligned to Salesforce platform best practices and governor limits.Evaluate platform-native features (Flows, OmniStudio, Einstein GPT, Agentforce, Prompt Builder, and Data Cloud plus AI) versus custom development. Recommend the most sustainable and scalable approach for each capability, applying current-generation Salesforce AI where it materially improves donor experience or operational outcomes.Adopt AI coding assistants (Einstein for Developers, or general-purpose coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code) as part of daily Salesforce development practice. Contribute to team standards for acceptable use, prompt patterns for Apex and Lightning Web Components, and updated quality gates for AI-generated code.
2. Integration Development
Design and implement integrations between Salesforce and external systems including ERP (SAP), donor management platforms, payment systems, and MuleSoft middleware.Build and maintain REST and SOAP API integrations; manage connected apps, named credentials, and OAuth flows.Design Salesforce Platform Events, Change Data Capture (CDC), and outbound messaging for real-time event-driven integrations.Familiarity with Data Cloud as an ingress and unification layer for Salesforce, including identity resolution, consent management, and integration patterns that treat Data Cloud as a first-class part of the broader integration mesh rather than a Salesforce-internal capability.
3. Code Quality & Governance
Establish and enforce Salesforce coding standards, meaningful test quality (with the 80 percent code coverage minimum as a platform floor rather than a quality goal), and deployment practices.Conduct code reviews for junior developers; mentor on Salesforce best practices, security model, and scalability patterns.Manage deployment pipelines using Salesforce DX (SFDX), Git, and CI/CD tools (Gearset, Copado, GitHub Actions).
4. Data Management & Security
Design and maintain Salesforce data model, object relationships, and data quality rules aligned to business needs.Configure and maintain Salesforce security model: profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, and field-level security.Implement data governance practices including deduplication, validation rules, and record lifecycle management.
5. Release Management & Support
Manage Salesforce release cycles including sandbox refreshes, change sets, and production deployments.Provide technical support and root-cause analysis for Salesforce incidents; maintain platform monitoring and health dashboards.Coordinate with Salesforce Account teams and AppExchange vendors for platform updates and third-party package management.Define and hold service level objectives for the Salesforce platform capabilities this role owns. Use error budgets to inform the trade-off between reliability investment and feature delivery, rather than treating platform reliability as up-or-down.
Position Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of Salesforce development experience in a complex, multi-org or enterprise environment.Working knowledge of current-generation Salesforce AI capabilities including Einstein GPT, Agentforce, and Prompt Builder, at a level sufficient to evaluate and design solutions that use them.Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools (Einstein for Developers, or general-purpose coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code) applied to Apex and Lightning Web Components development.Experience shipping Salesforce solutions in either a regulated environment (life sciences, healthcare, financial services, or comparable) or a consumer-scale environment (retail, fintech, media, or comparable) where reliability and user experience have direct business consequence.Expert-level Apex development: bulkification, asynchronous processing (Batch, Queueable, Future, Scheduled), and trigger frameworks.Proficiency in Lightning Web Components (LWC); experience migrating legacy Aura components to LWC.Hands-on experience integrating Salesforce with external systems via REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, and middleware (MuleSoft preferred).Deep knowledge of Salesforce data model, SOQL/SOSL, and governor limits.Experience with Salesforce DevOps tools: SFDX, Git, Gearset, Copado, or GitHub Actions.Salesforce Platform Developer I certification required; Platform Developer II or Architect credential strongly preferred.Strong analytical and debugging skills; experience with Salesforce Health Check and Security Review.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with Salesforce Health Cloud, Service Cloud, or Experience Cloud.Familiarity with Salesforce Data Cloud or Marketing Cloud.Prior direct experience with 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, or comparable regulatory frameworks in a Salesforce context.Salesforce Application Architect or System Architect certification.
Competencies
Platform Expertise — maintains deep, current knowledge of Salesforce platform capabilities and evolving release features.Scalable Design — builds solutions with long-term maintainability and platform governor limits in mind.Technical Leadership — guides junior developers and elevates the overall quality of Salesforce delivery.Integration Mindset — designs Salesforce as a connected node in the broader enterprise ecosystem.Business Alignment — understands operations well enough to challenge and improve requirements, not just implement them.AI Fluency — evaluates where current-generation Salesforce AI capabilities help and where they do not. Applies them judgmentally. Treats platform AI features as production.
