About the role
The Tolling Technician is responsible for the performance, maintenance, and support of toll collection and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure, ensuring high availability and accuracy of toll operations. This exempt-level position includes field and office duties such as equipment diagnostics, configuration, system reporting, vendor coordination, and process improvement initiatives. The technician serves as a subject matter expert and works independently or collaboratively to support tolling operations.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain tolling equipment, including AVI/AVC systems, cameras, sensors, readers, and communication devices.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency repairs of field components.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and communications issues on-site.
- Conduct field inspections, calibrate detection equipment, validate lane accuracy, document fieldwork, and maintain equipment inventory.
- Analyze toll system performance data, identify anomalies, and recommend corrective actions.
- Generate reports on device uptime, maintenance trends, toll transaction quality, and system health.
- Monitor alarms and logs from network management systems, including SCADA, SNMP, and CMS.
- Maintain service logs, system schematics, and technical documentation.
- Develop SOPs for routine maintenance, troubleshooting procedures, and safety protocols.
- Create incident reports, track resolution timelines, and update configuration records.
- Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and integrators on technical issues, firmware upgrades, and project implementation.
- Review contractor submittals and verify compliance with technical specifications.
- Act as a liaison between field operations and engineering or IT departments.
