Custodial Worker (Shift 1) in Nashville, TN

State of TN is hiring a Custodial Worker for Shift 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. This on-site role offers $17 per hour. No previous experience is required; applicants need a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Dust, mop, vacuum, clean restrooms, and restock paper and soap supplies.
• Empty trash receptacles, bag waste, and dispose of trash in dumpsters.
• Perform routine care and maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Unlock areas before cleaning and ensure doors are locked afterward.
• Report facility needs, concerns, and supply levels to appropriate staff; submit or recommend work orders as needed.
• Use equipment and supplies properly while supporting workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Help train new staff on routine custodial procedures.
• Complete facility-specific cleaning and seasonal or project-based tasks.
• Provide vendors access to cleaning areas, answer basic questions, and report vendor issues to supervisors.
• As needed, assist with snow removal and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs or adjusting furniture.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or GED equivalent; no prior experience required.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment.
• Understanding of custodial safety practices, including proper lifting, chemical safety, and personal protective equipment.
• Familiarity with basic maintenance and sanitation standards in school or institutional settings.
• Awareness and sensitivity when working in an educational setting with students who are blind or visually impaired.
• Ability to follow cleaning procedures, care for equipment, and communicate facility or supply concerns.
