About the role

OpenAI is seeking a Safety Transparency Editor to own the editorial quality of key safety transparency artifacts and systems. The role focuses on clearly explaining technical safety topics and using AI to build systems that help the broader organization communicate this work.

Safety Systems works to ensure OpenAI’s most capable models can be developed and deployed responsibly. The Trustworthy AI team’s safety transparency function helps external audiences understand OpenAI’s technical safety work with clarity, rigor, and continuity. Its public artifacts explain how systems are evaluated for safety, what safeguards are built, what decisions are made, and where uncertainty remains.

Responsibilities

• Shape and execute how OpenAI’s technical safety work is communicated externally.
• Identify the narrative thread and use judgment about which details matter.
• Determine where additional context, explanation, or supporting evidence is needed.
• Translate complex topics without sacrificing precision.
• Help external audiences understand the safety measures taken and the uncertainties that remain.
• Own the editorial quality of artifacts such as system cards, the Deployment Safety Hub, safety-related blogs, public governance documents, and other outputs.
• Help develop AI-assisted workflows, data visualizations, and interactive tools that make technical safety information easier to understand, navigate, and use.
