Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing CPA firm. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of business and individual tax clients while providing proactive tax planning, compliance, and advisory services. The Senior Tax Accountant serves as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring exceptional service, timely communication, and the accurate delivery of tax and accounting solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, excellent client relationship skills, and the ability to mentor staff while managing multiple engagements in a fast-paced professional environment.
Key Duties:Tax Preparation & ReviewPrepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:IndividualsPartnershipsS CorporationsC CorporationsTrusts and EstatesNonprofit OrganizationsReview workpapers and tax returns prepared by junior staff.Ensure compliance with current tax laws and firm quality standards.Research complex tax issues and document findings.Respond to IRS, state, and local tax notices and examinations.Prepare tax projections and estimated tax calculations.Client Relationship ManagementServe as the primary contact for assigned clients.Build and maintain strong relationships through regular communication.Meet with clients to discuss tax strategies, financial concerns, and business objectives.Proactively identify tax savings opportunities and planning strategies.Coordinate client engagements and ensure deadlines are met.Address client questions and resolve issues promptly and professionally.Educate clients regarding tax law changes and their potential impact.Assist with onboarding new clients and transitioning them into firm processes.Tax Planning & Advisory ServicesProvide proactive tax planning for individuals and businesses.Identify opportunities for entity structuring, tax credits, deductions, and succession planning.Assist clients with business transactions, acquisitions, and sales.Advise business owners on tax-efficient strategies and operational decisions.Prepare and present tax planning recommendations to clients.Staff Leadership & DevelopmentTrain, mentor, and supervise staff accountants and tax preparers.Review staff work for accuracy and completeness.Assist with workflow management and engagement scheduling.Provide technical guidance and coaching to team members.Participate in staff performance evaluations and professional development initiatives.Business DevelopmentIdentify opportunities for additional firm services.Participate in networking and business development activities.Collaborate with partners on client retention and growth strategies.Assist with proposals and presentations for prospective clients.Practice ManagementManage engagement budgets and realization targets.Monitor project progress and ensure efficient completion of assignments.Maintain organized client files and documentation.Utilize firm software systems for tax preparation, document management, and workflow tracking.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.5+ years of public accounting tax experience.Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws.Experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong client management and relationship-building abilities.Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.PreferredCPA license/active pursuit of CPA certification or EA LicenseExperience with UltraTax, CCH, Drake, or similar tax software.Experience supervising and mentoring staff.Business advisory and tax planning experience.Skills & CompetenciesTechnical tax expertiseClient relationship managementLeadership and mentoringTax research and problem-solvingProject and deadline managementBusiness advisory skillsAttention to detailProfessional communicationTime managementTeam collaborationCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experiencePerformance bonus opportunitiesHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with employer matchPaid time off and holidaysContinuing professional education (CPE)CPA exam support and professional development opportunitiesHybrid/remote work flexibility (if applicable)Why Join Us?You will work directly with business owners and individuals, helping them navigate complex tax matters while building long-term client relationships.
