About the role

Olympia Fields Hospital is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for a full-time position in the Lab department.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, highly complex, and moderately complex testing in accordance with CLIA (42 CFR ), using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
• Follow laboratory procedures for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance, correct them, or immediately notify the immediate supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
• Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
• Review patient result accuracy before releasing or reporting results, and recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Test proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient samples; collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited before reporting results to the appropriate agencies.
• May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
• Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
• Follow department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety and infection control.

• Possess a degree of skill commensurate with individual education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
