About the JobSuperintendents oversee and manage all phases of construction projects including project safety, coordinating workers, materials and equipment, supervising sub-contractors and staff, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and that work is proceeding on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
Typical DutiesPrimary liaison with project managers and engineers for the day-to-day construction activities of the projectPerform in-depth review of all contract documents to become familiar with all details, notes, and requirementsMonitor quality standards of all jobs, including contractor performance, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being metProvide guidance in resolving construction problems encounteredProvide technical assistance regarding construction methods and equipmentLead, supervise and develop all Nova field staff, including providing input on or completing performance appraisalsEnsure strict adherence to ethics and compliance requirements at all timesMonitors job safety and safety training; enforces safety programs and OSHA Standards as required and ensure subcontractor compliance with Nova standardsIdentify potential changed conditions and inform Project Engineer and Project ManagerAssist with preparation of written reports and/or updates (internal and external) for management, client, and project team, to ensure a clear understanding of project statusManage and make decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levelsOversee work among all trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule and all other appropriate mattersAct as liaison among owner’s representatives, inspection agencies, staff, and subcontractorsManage the General Conditions and General Requirements for the project to maintain budgetManage the work to ensure that it is completed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documentsOther duties as assigned or needed
QualificationsMinimum 10 years of industry related experience in residential utilities, electrical distribution, and civil worksThorough knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret general and subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, as well as construction means, methods and materialsKnowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting proceduresStrong management, leadership and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writingThorough understanding of OSHA/EM-385 requirements and safe working practicesAbility to work with customers to develop and maintain long-term relationshipsComputer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programsKnowledge of Primavera scheduling desirableGC experience desirableProficiency in Spanish is preferredAbility to maintain a valid driver’s license
Working Environment/Physical DemandsExerting up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Work involves walking, sitting, or standing to a significant degreeWork is performed at project (construction) sites and in an office and/or trailerDriving both vehicles and buggies/carts, if applicableClimbing in/out of vehicles, stairs, walkways, ladders, if applicableWork minimum of 40 hours =/week
