Electrical Engineer

VST Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support major transportation and transit infrastructure projects in the Los Angeles area. The ideal candidate will have approximately 5 plus years of experience designing building and facility electrical systems, preferably for rail, transit, airport, or other complex public infrastructure projects.
About the RoleThis position will focus on customer-side electrical systems, including medium-voltage service and step-down distribution to 480V, as well as complete 480V-and-below power and lighting systems.ResponsibilitiesDesign and evaluate building and facility electrical distribution systems.Support medium-voltage power distribution and transformation to 480V.Perform electrical load calculations and equipment sizing.Develop single-line diagrams, load schedules, and panel schedules.Size panels, breakers, conductors, conduits, transformers, and related equipment.Prepare conduit and cable schedules.Design interior and exterior lighting systems and associated controls.Develop electrical plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, mechanical, civil, structural, and systems disciplines.Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and contractor design documents.Support design reviews and address comments from clients and project stakeholders.Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.Provide engineering support during design and construction.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Approximately 5 plus years of relevant electrical design experience.Experience with building, facility, or infrastructure power-distribution systems.Knowledge of medium-voltage transformation and 480V-and-below electrical systems.Experience preparing electrical calculations, schedules, plans, and specifications.Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred SkillsExperience with LA Metro, LAWA, LAX Automated People Mover, Division 20, or comparable transit, rail, or aviation projects.Engineer-in-Training certification.Interest in obtaining a California Professional Engineer license.Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or similar electrical-design software.Experience supporting projects through both design and construction.A Professional Engineer license is preferred but not required. VST is especially interested in candidates who are actively working toward professional licensure.
