Job description
About the role
Zoo New York is seeking an Executive Director to lead long-term strategy and strengthen organizational and financial health.
Responsibilities
- Develop new revenue opportunities, corporate partnerships, and earned income.
- Lead fundraising, including major gifts, annual appeals, capital campaigns, and grants.
- Build relationships with municipal partners, donors, sponsors, and the community.
- Serve as a visible public voice for Zoo New York across Northern New York.
- Provide executive oversight of administration, visitor services, and facilities, support the Animal Curator, and partner with the Board.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of senior leadership experience in the nonprofit or for-profit sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Strong budgeting and B&P oversight experience, ideally including financial stabilization or transformation.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships.
- Strategic vision, decisive leadership, diplomacy, political savvy, and strong public speaking skills.
- Experience in a zoo, cultural institution, tourism or destination management, municipal government, or grant writing is a plus.
