Senior Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

Leonardo DRS has an immediate need for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to provide direct engineering support to specialized manufacturing operations in Fitchburg, United States. The role supports Lean manufacturing process flow, production tool design and development, and detailed work instructions. It also works with manufacturing department personnel on training and production readiness, collaborating with engineering, program management, supply chain, and manufacturing in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Assignments range from new product proposal support and new product DFx and introduction to sustainment and continuous improvement of existing product lines. DRS NPS is the primary contractor for the U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine integrated electric propulsion system and designs and manufactures large, advanced electric drive motors and components for the new submarines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Lean manufacturing process flow for product lines in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
• Develop detailed work instructions that meet product quality, customer, and contractual requirements in a defense contract environment.
• Provide direct engineering support to manufacturing operations.
• Define tooling and fixturing requirements and work with the CAD design team to develop, manufacture, and commission them in support of manufacturing operations.
