Sr. Mechanical Engineer

About the role

ESPO Corporation is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in Chicago, United States. This contract-to-hire role designs mechanical components and assemblies for automated welding equipment and Additive Manufacturing Systems, with a focus on cost-effective designs that meet customer specifications and product performance needs.

Work is typically performed in an office setting or designated administrative area, with occasional visits to customer and vendor facilities and trade shows or conferences. Movement through industrial or manufacturing areas is required, along with appropriate personal protective wear and observance of established safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate preliminary designs at the quote stage and determine feasibility based on customer requirements and specifications.
• Assist Application Engineering with cost estimating in support of the quotation process.
• Size designs using computer programs or hand calculations and compare them with previous designs.
• Use 3D modeling software to check mechanical fit and tolerance against customer specifications.
• Review designs with Application Engineering, Welding and Manufacturing departments.
• Submit final designs to the customer for approval and, once approved, prepare drawings for release to Manufacturing.
• Review products continuously and suggest cost reductions for new and existing designs.
• Assist Manufacturing with preparation and throughout the build process, including troubleshooting and debugging.
• Update drawings after the system is built to reflect changes or modifications.
• Create a list of replacement parts for the machine manual.
