Registered Nurse, Child and Adolescent Day Hospital (PRN)

About the role

Sheppard Pratt’s Child and Adolescent Day Hospital is a group-based psychiatric program attended during weekdays. Patients return home in the evenings and on weekends. It provides less intensive care than inpatient treatment and more support than an outpatient setting.

Care includes individual and group treatment, with multiple group therapeutic sessions throughout the day. Treatment offerings include family meetings and collaborative care with family, friends, and/or significant others; group treatment; supportive counseling; treatment planning; and aftercare planning. Group treatment can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), medication education, recreation or activity, and psychoeducation.

Schedule: PRN, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily psychoeducational groups to enhance their therapeutic impact on patients and improve group skills.
• Interview patients and assess their functional level according to professional standards.
• Create and review all Master Treatment Plans (MTPs).
• Recognize changes in patients’ physiological and psychological status and initiate action as indicated.
• Observe self-administration of medication and perform medical treatments as prescribed by a physician or indicated by the patient’s condition.
• Instruct patients and families on mental health issues, treatments, procedures, plans of care, and home care methods and techniques necessary for continuing patient care.
