Job description
About the role
WSP in the U.S. is seeking an Associate Geotechnical Engineer for work in its Southern California region. The role involves assignments of limited scope and complexity, performed under the supervision of a project manager or senior staff member. Occasional travel to field assignments is required.
Responsibilities
- Plan and support subsurface explorations, including borings, test pits, and CPTs, and coordinate with drillers, surveyors, and utility locators as needed.
- Identify ways to improve field data collection or reporting templates to help the team work more efficiently and competitively.
- Log soil and rock in the field; document groundwater, sampling, and drilling conditions; and maintain organized field notes and photo records.
- Coordinate laboratory testing programs, including index, strength, consolidation, and corrosion testing, and review results for completeness and reasonableness.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses, including bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressures, slope stability screening, and seismic site analyses.
- Collect or compile data, enter data into and extract data from standard computer programs, and research complex regulatory or technical requirements.
Requirements
- Generally, more than two years of experience after a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of graduate-level degree and experience.
- Basic orientation, training, and experience in consulting, including writing proposals, reports, client correspondence, and internal documents.
- Familiarity with standard procedures and practices associated with the discipline.
