Job description
About the Role
Bluebix Solutions is recruiting a Photonic Product Engineer for a full-time, on-site opportunity in Raleigh, North Carolina. Join a deep-tech startup developing solid-state far-UVC light sources for compact, energy-efficient disinfection, sensing, and advanced photonic applications.
In this hands-on role, you will lead photonic product and packaging design through production release, helping develop next-generation far-UVC light engines. You will work across engineering, research and development, manufacturing, and supply-chain partners to solve complex design challenges and support the transition from prototypes to volume production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product design and production release for packaged far-UVC light engines.
- Develop optoelectronic packaging for hybrid and integrated photonic assemblies, addressing thermal, electrical, optical, and materials requirements.
- Partner with research and development and manufacturing teams to apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and Design for Quality principles.
- Analyze product performance data and help define requirements for prototypes, pilot builds, and production scaling.
- Coordinate assembly specifications and manage engineering change controls during manufacturing ramp-up.
- Resolve supply-chain issues and lead troubleshooting and failure analysis during product launch.
- Prepare inspection instructions, test criteria, and nonconformance actions to support manufacturing quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners to meet product performance and cost targets.
- Champion innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the engineering organization.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, optics, materials science, or an equivalent field.
- At least six years of photonics or optoelectronics industry experience in new product development.
- Relevant experience in photonic product design, optoelectronic packaging, and production release.
- Ability to work hands-on across engineering disciplines and collaborate with research and development, manufacturing, and external partners.
